The Dannemann Siemsen Institute (IDS) invites you to the first Agenda IDS of 2026, this time dedicated to debating the possibilities for prioritized examination of patent applications at the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BPTO), including the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH).
The webinar will present the available prioritized examination, their requirements, and the results achieved by the BPTO through their implementation, particularly regarding shorter examination timelines and greater efficiency in patent examination.
The initiative aims to raise awareness of these strategic tools among national and foreign applicants, highlighting their potential to accelerate patent protection in Brazil and support technology protection strategies.
Mauricio Teixeira Desiderio, partner at Dannemann Siemsen, will moderate the roundtable discussion featuring two experts on the topic:
Speakers:
Diego Musskopf – Intellectual Property Researcher at the BPTO since 2009, Manager of the Prioritized Examination Task Force (2012–2019), General Coordinator of Governance at the BPTO’s Patent Directorate (2025–present). Diego is an Architect and Urban Planner (UFRGS / FAU / 2004); Research Fellow under the WIPO-JPO agreement on the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) carried out at APIC (Japan) (2011/12); Specialist in Contemporary Public Management in the field of Business Process Management (UFRGS / CEAPC / 2019); Master’s degree in Civil Engineering in the field of More Sustainable Construction (UFRGS / NORIE / 2007); PhD in Public Policy in the field of Innovation, Industrial Property and Development (UFRJ / IE / 2017).
Maria Moura Malburg – Partner at Dannemann Siemsen. Maria holds a degree in electronic and computer engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), is studying for a law degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), works in the area of patents and industrial designs, and serves national and international companies from the most varied segments of industry: electrical and electronic, metallurgy, steel-making, industrial equipment, and food and beverages, among others.
Moderator:
Mauricio Teixeira Desiderio – Partner at Dannemann Siemsen, where he has been working for 30 years. Mauricio is a chemical engineer, lawyer, and industrial property agent, with an emphasis on patents in the areas of chemistry, pharmacy, agriculture, biotechnology, food, cosmetics, and other related fields. He also works in the protection area of Plant Varieties, and as a technical assistant in lawsuits involving patents.
