IDS welcomes Franklin Pierce University: Studying Intellectual Property in the USA
Last Thursday, the Dannemann Siemsen Institute (IDS) held another IDS Agenda event, this time welcoming as a guest Sarah Dorner, Director of International Admissions and Graduate Studies at the Franklin Pierce Law School of the prestigious University of New Hampshire (UNH Franklin Pierce), United States (USA), who spoke about the institution’s short and long-term Intellectual Property (IP) Law courses.
The meeting was moderated by IDS’s Executive Director, Filipe Fonteles Cabral, and included the remote participation of Dannemann Siemsen lawyer Victor Dreyssig Kronemberger, who is currently doing an LLM (Master of Laws) program at the institution, telling us a little about his experience.
Filipe Fonteles began the moderation by presenting Sarah Dorner’s work at the University, as well as sharing his own vision of the programs offered as a former student of the institution. He explained that although Brazil is a major center of study and knowledge in IP, studying in the US allows for contact with other cultures and different business approaches, as well as getting closer to the ideas and theses that founded many of the understandings in IP on national soil, such as Dilution Theory and the 360º Test.
Sarah then took the floor and introduced UNH Franklin Pierce. She pointed out that Franklin Pierce is among the 10 best universities to study IP in the USA. Sarah also said that today the university has the largest IP library in the West. She then differentiated between each of the study programs, explaining the requirements, approaches and methodologies explored in each one. She also talked about the university’s approach to students and showed some of the academic consultancy and practical learning projects for international students, such as internships and IP “clinics”.
Finally, Sarah pointed out that the institution has various resources for foreign students, explaining the application processes and the possibilities of scholarships and study funding accepted by the faculty.
A recording of the talk will be made available on the IDS website.
