Agenda IDS – “IP Protection in Plant Innovation in Brazil”

Agenda IDS 2024:  The Dannemann Siemsen Institute (IDS) welcomed experts to speak on relevant issues related to Intellectual Property protection in plant innovation in Brazil.

This event explored how these topics are being addressed in Brazil, with a focus on biotech patents and plant variety protection.

Two specialists participated in the debate:

• Pedro Moreira addressed the validity and enforcement of plant variety protection in Brazil.
• Pedro Henrique Borges de Figueiredo discussed patent protection in Brazil for gene-editing technologies, elite events, and crop products.

 Speakers:

Pedro is a pharmacist and partner at Dannemann Siemsen. He has over 20 years of experience in Intellectual Property Law, specializing in patents in the fields of chemistry, metallurgy and materials, agrochemistry, biotechnology, pharmacy, and related areas. Pedro also provides technical and legal advice on Plant Variety Protection and is involved in technical assistance for lawsuits and due diligence in patents and plant variety protection.

Pedro Henrique holds a degree in Biological Sciences and an MSc in Molecular Biology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He is a partner at Dannemann Siemsen and has been working with intellectual property for 15 years, focusing on biotechnology, including patents and plant variety protection. He has experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the field of biotechnology, as well as serving as a technical assistant in lawsuits involving patents and plant variety protection.
