WORLD INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY DAY

26 de abril de 2021

Every year on April 26, we celebrate the World Intellectual Property Day.

Exactly 51 years ago, on April 26, 1970, entered into force the Convention establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), which was signed at Stockholm on July 14, 1967.

First established in 2000 by the WIPO General Assembly, this important date is celebrated internationally, in order to raise awareness of the role that Intellectual Property Rights play in encouraging creative activity, research, development and innovation.

This year, the theme is associated with the importance of intellectual property for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs): “IP and SMEs: Taking Your Ideas to Market”.

In a moment when the validity period of most of the patents granted in Brazil is being questioned at the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF), the celebration of the World IP Day emphasizes the importance of an effective and adequate protection of intellectual property as a driving force for technological development and economic growth, especially in the challenging moment that we are currently facing.

The Dannemann Siemsen Institute joins the national and international community of creators, inventors, researchers and professionals in the field of IP, and wishes everyone a Happy World Intellectual Property Day!
